'It's the ninth anniversary,' not the first: Jeffrey Sachs on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict
As the first anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine conflict approaches, CGTN's Dong Xue spoke to Jeffrey Sachs, a renowned American economist, public policy analyst and former director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University. Sachs reflected on how the conflict started and the United States' role in the crisis. On resolving the conflict, Sachs said, "If the two sides … I mean the United States and Russia … would sit down with proper diplomacy and hear each other's positions, there is ground for ending this conflict."
On Tuesday, China released "The Global Security Initiative Concept Paper" to lay out core concepts and principles around global security and peace. In addition, China's senior diplomat Wang Yi announced last week that China will publish a position document on a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis. CGTN's Dong Xue spoke to Jeffrey Sachs, a renowned American economist, who says that he was "gratified to hear" about China's peace proposals.
